There’s A Lot More to Net-Zero Than Sustainable Materials

We’re a little over eight (8) weeks out from the deadline to apply for the Net-Zero City Project. Now is the time to make sure all your questions are answered as you put your application together. Feel free to email us at info@netzerocityproject.com for all questions, or to the contact information on the application form.

We’ve begun preliminary assessment of various technologies that will be included as part of the Project and encourage early applications for anyone who would like their company’s technology to be considered in the original development plans of the Net-Zero City Development Plan.

We’re also beginning to reach out to policy makers to participate on the policy development committee and to dive deeper into selecting an appropriate site for the development of our first net-zero city. As we continue to speak to representatives, the public-private partnerships that will be required to support the implementation of the project are beginning to take shape.

Further information on our investment strategy is available here.

Let’s talk a little about the difference between carbon neutral and net-zero. In recent years some developers have started using carbon-neutral materials for their development. This is progressive and makes a difference but is different from building a net-zero environment for a community or city.

Carbon neutral means that any CO2 released into the atmosphere from a company’s activities is balanced by an equivalent amount being removed. When you use carbon neutral materials the manufacturers are saying that the materials they developed have had a neutral carbon-emissions impact on the environment.

Net-Zero refers to balancing the whole amount of any greenhouse gas (GHG) released into the environment and removed from the atmosphere. The Net-Zero City Project will assess infrastructure requirements to build net-zero developments that help increase corporations’ ROI.

All green technology advancement is expected to be constrained by material and infrastructure bottlenecks. It makes sense. No technology development will make a difference until the infrastructure is prepared to support its implementation.

This makes our work some of the most critical to advancing carbon reduction and net-zero aspirations around the world.

Applying for the Net-Zero City Project

The purpose of the Net-Zero City Project is to design infrastructure that has a net-zero carbon footprint. We will be answering the following questions:

  • Which technologies are the most appropriate to use, and how can they be integrated to achieve emissions reductions while ensuring reliability, affordability, and generating industry-level competitiveness for each technology?

  • Further, how will these technologies work together across functions, and how much land, power, and resources will be required to develop and run the city?

The objectives of the Net-Zero City Project:

  • Discovering and utilizing the newest possible clean technology available in the world today.

  • To design from scratch, infrastructure that integrates technologies to deliver net-zero emissions.

  • Develop multiple avenues for profit and sustainability into the structure and development of the city.

  • Create a comprehensive technology integration blueprint for our partners and collaborators to use in their development projects ongoingly.

Committee members will be selected from the applicants who submit their applications by the April 25, 2024 deadline, and who meet the minimum criteria below:

  1. Qualified to participate.

  2. Can afford to participate (aka, their company has enough money to put into both participating on the committee and/or panel, and to implement any technology that they are recommending be used as part of the project).

  3. The applicant’s company is at minimum partially financed, or they have received grant funding to move their projects along.

Further information is available in the application package or on our website at www.netzerocityproject.com.

If you and/or your company fit within these categories, or you have vendor partners who are likely to fit, please download the application form and submit your application as soon as possible. You can download the application form by clicking here.

We are excited to partner with and invest in the technologies that will be selected by the Net-Zero City Project committees. The results of these collaborations will form the benchmark for North American sustainability strategies and design.
